Leadership
Over 15 years, Stephen has established a career in the energy industry as a distinctive strategist, founder, and operator. In 2009, Stephen executed the first international desk at Good Energy, LP located in New York City, while co-writing the strategy which would lead to the management of over 1% of the United States population’s retail electricity purchases. In 2011, Thayer founded Southern Illinois Municipal Electric Company (SIMEC), which was a pioneer in Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) programs in the United States. Thayer identified under served markets, raised capital, hired sales and marketing teams, partnered with the largest retail energy companies in the US, lobbied governmental bodies, and passed public elections to exclusively procure power to its member governments.
Stephen founded The W Companies, which are designed to search for opportunities in the development and financing of combined heat and power, biomass, solar and battery projects in the continental US and in Puerto Rico. In 2022, while at Voltus, Inc., he opened an office in the UK and led Mergers & Acquisition (M&A) expansion efforts in Europe.

Stephen is a graduate of the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC and currently lives in West Palm Beach, Florida.
